WESTBURY HOME/LOT IMPROVENT PROCESS

                               HOME IMPROVEMENTS

Some reminders now that the good weather has arrived.

  • Home/Lot Improvement requests will be picked up on Wednesday Morning of each week.

(The forms can be located in the mailroom, on this Westburyhoai.com website or PMA can email them to you.)

Expect a 2-week turnaround time before approval can be evaluated and form(s) signed

Contacting DigSafe (811) if there will be any ground disturbance while doing your project. Dig Safe does not mark the co-ops utilities for electric, septic/leach fields & water lines. They will only mark GMP & Cable/phone lines. A committee member or PMA will need to inspect the co-op utilities once the Home/Lot Improvement request form is submitted.

  • If a permit is required the Town will not approve a permit application without an authorized signature from the co-op.
  • The Town will not approve a permit application for a new project if there is an existing structure that has not been permitted or closed out. However, in most instances, an after-the-fact permit can be obtained by following the procedure. examples: existing Porch, Deck, Fences, Ramps, Sheds, 3 Season Porches, Electric running from Home to Shed, storage containers & tents, walkways, and more.
  • If you are considering selling your home, all permits must be in place for existing structures for the Town to allow the sale to move forward. Many times this is where the after-the-fact permit is obtained however it often holds up the purchase closing

One exception to the after-the-fact permit is electrical wiring from the home to the shed etc. This permit cannot be obtained if the wiring is not up to code.

Please contact Colchester Planning and Zoning for further information on more structures requiring a permit or if you are unsure whether your existing structures have one. Having that information may expedite the process of starting a new project or when selling your home.

Hope this helps

Good Luck with your projects!
